Tithing Settlement

As faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ, we are asked to obey the law of tithing. The law of tithing is simply stated as one-tenth of all of our income. When faithfully practiced, the law provides us with innumerable blessings and promises. We receive both spiritual and temporal blessings.

Malachi shares the promise of the Lord. "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
"And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts" (Malachi 3:10-11).

President James E. Faust said, “One of the great blessings the people of this Church have is to meet with the bishop once each year, settle their tithing, and report that what they had paid in contributions constitutes a tithe."

Bishop Cox will begin meeting with individuals this week to take advantage of this important declaration. Please click on the link below to schedule a time to meet with Bishop Cox.

Weekly Update October 24

 Leadership Message

THE HEALING POWER OF GRATITUDE

Peace, perspective and healing. Just 3 of the blessings we can enjoy if we follow President Russell M. Nelson’s prescription.

Last year the prophet prescribed two activities to help us experience the healing power of gratitude. First, he invited us to flood social media with gratitude. Second, he asked us to pour out our heart in gratitude for the countless blessings God has given us, in daily prayer.

The healing and blessings he promised can still be claimed.

Showing gratitude:

soothes our feelings.

provides us with a greater perspective on the very purpose and joy of life

helps us feel happier

helps us feel more at peace.

prayers of gratitude can bring forth miracles.

gratitude has healing power.

If you could use these blessings in your life, I invite you to apply gratitude therapy in your life and watch for the promised blessings.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. :D

Weekly Update October 17

Leadership Message

Hello Brothers and Sisters,

This week I’ve been thinking a lot about the parable of the Prodigal Son. In this parable you have three characters: the older son, the younger son, and the father. The younger son took his inheritance and squandered it in riotous living. After he had spent all he had and found himself destitute, he returned home hoping to be hired as a worker in his father’s house. He traveled home and while “he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.” The younger son was repentant, acknowledging his mistakes. The father frankly forgave him and ordered a celebration. The older son was upset, asking his father why there was no celebration for him. His father wisely told the elder son, “thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.” They were celebrating the return of the one that was lost.

My favorite part of this parable is the compassion the father has for his lost child. He saw him while “he was yet a great way off.” The father was looking for his son, hoping he would come home. Our Father in Heaven is the same. He looks for us when we are “yet a great way off.” He waits to bless us and welcome us back into His home. All of the blessings He has are available to us, if we stay near to Him. Brothers and Sisters, I invite you this week to find a few minutes to come closer to our Heavenly Father. I promise as you do so, you will find that He will run to meet you, and will bless you. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen. -Brother Haderlie

October 3 Weekly Update

Announcements

Missionary Meals

Hello Taylorsville 23rd Ward! We are your new Sister missionaries. Our names are Sister Rasmusson and Sister Matelau. Please feel free to contact us at (801)-755-9390.

We would love to get to know every member of your ward! We can meet with members any day between the hours of 1-3 pm and 8-9 pm. If you would like to set up a time to meet, call or text us, and we will arrange something.

As you all know, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a lot of things to change with missionary work and us missionaries. We recently had a major rule update that will be in effect permanently. To be clear, these changes are not due to COVID-19, but are changes in the Utah Area for Missionary Standards. These changes will definitely affect the normal way of doing things with missionaries. We know that these changes can be hard but we do recommend that you prayerfully consider these changes.
These changes are meant to help each of us (members and missionaries) join together more closely in this great work in normal and natural ways. Therefore, we ask that you support the area authority Seventy in this new method of finding.
The following changes will be effective 9/1/2021:

From 5-8 pm, we will be focusing our time towards finding new people and teaching nonmembers
We will be trying to schedule all of our member lessons between the hours of 8 and 9 pm, whenever possible.
Missionaries (us!) can accept an invitation to eat with members in their homes on Saturday and Sunday but the focus should be on eating with nonmembers, part-member families, and less-active families, and not merely socializing with fully-active members.
We will try to keep interactions to 45 minutes at most.
The decisions on which members’ homes to attend will be coordinated between us, the Ward Missionary Representatives, and the family providing the meal!
We will eat for part of the time and the rest would be devoted to us to share a brief message centered on Jesus Christ and how we can grow our faith!
We may eat dinner with members and their families during the week if a nonmember is present!!!
We have been asked that ward lists are not created in Relief Society or Elders Quorum. Though this has long been a tradition, we ask that you contact us about a time directly if you would like to share a meal during a weekday with us and a non-member.
We can also eat lunch with members in their homes any day of the week as long as a nonmember is present!
These interactions will also last for about 45 minutes at most.

Let us know if you have any questions!
