Ward Mission Message

Our Saviors plea is to "let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven. Despite our every effort, in Matthew 5:16 it tells you and I won't heal everyone, but each of us can be the one who can make a difference for good in the life of someone. The  easiest way to let your light shine is to keep a smile on your face. It takes less effort to smile than to frown and frowns make more wrinkles. I was challenged one day by my husband to do this and he talks to everyone. You go to a store or just take a walk where you will run into people. Put on your best smile. I went to Walmart and my first person was an elderly man with hid head down to his chest. I stopped him and wished him a Good morning and he grunted at me. He then turned his head to me and said thank you, I haven't heard that in a long time, he told me he would have a great day and wished me the same. I walked through the store for about an hour wishing all a great day, a lot just ignored me or wished me the same. Take a chance and you will feel happy even if they don't let you see it. And you will still have your happy smile on your face and Christ will know you are trying to do what he asks  of all of us.

Relief Society

The lesson this week will be from Covenant Confidence through Jesus Christ by Elder Ulisses Soares.

Ongoing Service Projects:

Mary Ellen Strong is still collecting plastic lids that will be used for prosthetics.

Jan Wheeler is collecting clothing, shoes, hats and jackets for youth and adults.  Let her know if you have anything so she can pick them up or arrange a time to drop them off at her home.

Tessie Edgar is collecting for the Murray Family Road Home homeless shelter.  Anything that can be used to set up a new apartment. IE: towels / tinfoil / extension cords. 

Father & Son's Campout

The Ward is planning a Father & Son’s Campout on Friday, August 9th - Saturday, August 10th.  It will be held at the Beaver Ridge Campground, which is the Church owned property near Park City.

Employment Opportunity

Legacy Village, 3251 South 5400 South, is looking for a part-time receptionist to cover shifts when needed.  If anyone is interested, please call 801-613-4600 and ask for Crissi.

Please attend an endowment session on your own sometime during the month and invite someone to go with you.

Upcoming Stake Activities

There will be a Stake devotional on June 30th.

Wanting to start a new career? Or change careers? Do you want to talk with people in your desired industry before investing in education? Join us on June 30th to hear why education can make a difference and talk with people in various trades/careers to get a better feel for what it is you're interested in! We will have representatives from the Utah System of Higher Education, SLCC, WGU, Ensign, Pathways, EnglishConnect and you'll have time to talk with people who work in various trades/careers. We will also have a guest sharing information on lifelong learning (for those who are retired or not looking to change careers). We look forward to seeing you there!

Pickleball:

Pickleball will be starting on Thursday nights on June 6th.  It will run through August 15th.  It will be played in mixed teams (men and women) and include youth and adults.

The 23rd ward is scheduled to play from 8-9 p.m. at the Stake Center in June, from 7-8 p.m. at the Stake Center in July, and from 7-8 p.m. at the West Building (3676 West 4700 South) in August.

Taylorsville Temple Dedication

There will be two dedicatory sessions for the Taylorsville Temple.  These sessions will be on Sunday, June 2nd at 10:00 a.m. or 1:30 p.m.  They will be held at the Stake Center which will be an extension of the Temple.  All baptized members, 8-years-old and older, are invited to attend.  Those wishing to attend will need a current temple recommend or a special ticket available from the bishopric.  Youth 8-15 must be accompanied by adult.  Please be in your seat 30 minutes prior to the session and bring a white handkerchief.

The Bishop has received tickets to attend the temple dedication at the Stake Center.  These tickets are available for all baptized members, ages 8 and older, who are temple-worthy.  If you have a current temple recommend, it is not necessary to have a ticket.  However, if you would like a ticket for keepsake, please show your current temple recommend to a member of the bishopric and they can get you a ticket.

If you do not have a current temple recommend, and would like to attend, please contact Brother Hunick (801-808-1248) to set up an appointment with a member of the Bishopric.

Ward Mission Message

Compassion is an attribute of Christ. It is born of love for others and knows no boundaries. Missionaries should always remember this and keep moving forward.

The young women are planning on visiting all 30 of the temples in Utah during the last week of May.  They have asked the Relief Society to help provide snacks for them.  If you are able to help, please drop off the snacks (oranges, apples, string cheese, assorted chips, crackers, etc.) to Lee Stevens at 3265 Bitter Root Circle by Saturday, May 25th so they can put them in bags for each day.

Teacher Council Meetings

The next round of Teacher Council meetings will be on Sunday May 26th for the Sunday School Teachers during the second hour; then the Primary Presidency and Teachers will meet right after church.

 

We are planning on meeting in the Cultural Hall at this point.  The topic of discussion will be how to "Think Celestial" in our teaching practices.

Ward Mission Message

Christ directed us to "go and bring forth fruit, that your fruit should remain." When we are striving to bring others into the gospel we are not only blessing their lives but ours as well. As the open house for the Taylorsville temple has ended, I know that many of you had the opportunity to take others to the open house and share with them your testimony. What a wonderful missionary tool this has been I am sure that many seeds have been planted. If you have had a special spiritual experience and feel comfortable in sharing it, please do so, we would love to hear about them or share them in class or with others that we may all be partakers of the spirit that you felt.

Ward Mission Message

Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf in his April Conference talk reminds us of the importance of missionary work and how we can be successful:

“Understand that it’s not your job to convert people. That is the role of the Holy Ghost. Your role is to share what is in your heart and live consistent with your beliefs.

So, don’t be discouraged if someone does not accept the gospel message immediately. It is not a personal failure.

That is between the individual and Heavenly Father.

Yours is to love God and love your neighbors, His children.

Believe, love, do.

Follow this path, and God will work miracles through you to bless His precious children.

This will help you to do what disciples of Jesus Christ have done since ancient times. His gospel and His Church are an important part of your life and of who you are and what you do. Therefore, invite others to come and see and come and help, and God will do His saving work, and they will come and stay.”

We are all part of the gathering of Israel!  Our Heavenly Father knows and loves us and will bless us as we strive to live and share the gospel.
